The calculator, the rate sheet, the newsletter and everything else here are general information to help you think about what you spend on AI tools. They aren't financial, investment, legal or tax advice. "Tool tax" is a figure of speech. Decide what to buy or cancel based on your own situation, and check with a professional if you need advice.
Prices and rates change
- Competitor prices are regular monthly list prices for individual plans, checked on the dates shown on the site. Vendors change prices, plans and limits often, and the figures here may be out of date by the time you read them.
- SHIFT AI credit rates are read from SHIFT's studios and rate list on the dates shown, and can change too.
- The usage levels (light, regular, heavy) are assumptions, set out on the rate sheet. Your real usage, and so your real cost, will differ.
- Always confirm the current price with the provider before you buy, upgrade or cancel.
No guarantees
The calculator compares costs at the usage shown. It doesn't promise you'll save money, and nothing on this site promises you'll earn money. See the referral and earnings disclosure.

This site links to other companies, including SHIFT AI (with my referral code), the tool vendors, Kit, YouTube and TikTok. I don't control those sites and I'm not responsible for their content, products, prices or policies. Anything you buy from them is between you and them, under their terms. Tool Tax isn't owned by, and doesn't speak for, SHIFT AI or any tool listed.
Trademarks
Product and company names on this site belong to their owners. They're used only to identify the products being compared, and using them doesn't mean those companies endorse Tool Tax.
Using the site
You're welcome to use the calculator, share your results and link to any page. Please don't copy the site or its data wholesale, present its numbers as coming from a tool vendor or from SHIFT, or interfere with how the site runs. The site's text, design and code belong to DailyProfits LLC.
No warranty
The site is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, I make no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including about accuracy, completeness, availability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. I work to keep the numbers right and fix errors when they're reported, but I can't guarantee there are none.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Tool Tax, DailyProfits LLC and Patrick Jenkins aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, savings or data, arising from your use of the site or of any third-party product or service it links to. The site is free, and total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, unless the law where you live says otherwise.
Changes
I may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site means you accept it.
